FOLSOM, CA (September 7, 2006) Cathilea Robinett of e.Republic and Terry Smithson of Intel joined other members of the Hurricane Education Leadership Program (HELP) in August to show New Orleans educators the opportunity and possibility of creating a 21st-century learning environment in their devastated city.
The HELP Team is a consortium of businesses, associations and non-profit entities established in late 2005 following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Its focus is on rebuilding and renewing learning environments by providing support, strategic guidance and vision for K-12 schools, school systems, educators and education leaders impacted by the Gulf Coast Hurricanes.
HELP partners demonstrated classroom and administrative solutions to educators who had little or no experience with cutting-edge educational technology.
Robinett, Executive Director of e.Republic's Center for Digital Government and Center for Digital Education, and Smithson, Education Strategist for Intel, are on the Executive Oversight Committee of the HELP Team. They met with New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin and along with other team members, will assist in development and facilitation of implementing a 21st Century learning model that can be easily replicated by other states and countries.
