Government Technology launches Emergency Management magazine to support diverse "All Hazards" community

Folsom, CA (May 11, 2006) e.Republic, Inc., the publisher of Government Technology magazine, has launched a new quarterly magazine to serve the unique information needs of the entire emergency response and recovery community. Government Technology's Emergency Management (EM) will debut at the Government Technology Conference in Sacramento, Calif., on May 15, 2006.

America has recently faced a variety of major emergencies ? costing lives, damaging the economy and burdening every level of government. While a significant amount of funding has been dedicated to homeland security efforts, natural disasters including hurricanes, fires, floods and tornadoes have created heightened awareness that jurisdictions must be prepared to deal with many different types of emergencies. "Every day, somewhere in America, there is an emergency that endangers the lives of our citizens" said Tim Karney, publisher of EM. "When that happens, elected officials, first responders and volunteers must work together. Leadership and cooperation will be critical in this type of environment where failure is not an option."

As a result, a diverse community of interest has formed around emergency management, consisting of a wide range of stakeholders, including elected officials, volunteer organizations, first responders, emergency managers, policymakers and many others. This entire community must be prepared and equipped to protect their jurisdictions from any type or level of threat. Until now, this diverse group of decision-makers had not one publication to guide them on lessons learned, best practices and how to leverage emerging technologies to meet this challenge.

EM is the first and only "all-hazards" publication. With an initial audience of more than 40,000 key public, private and non-governmental decision-makers that have responsibilities in disaster prevention, emergency preparedness, incident management and economic recovery, EM will serve as the definitive leadership and strategy resource. EM will be published quarterly.
