Copy Editor - (Folsom, CA)

Through in-depth coverage of IT case studies, emerging technologies and the implications of digital technology on the policies and management of public sector organizations, Government Technology chronicles the dynamics of governing in the information age. Managers, elected officials, CIOs and technology staff at all levels of government gain IT news and event information from Government Technology magazine.

We are looking for a Copy Editor, who will provide internal support for the Editorial and Research/Navigator departments, as well as any other departments in need of copy editing work.


  • Copy edit and proofread daily news stories for Web
  • Copy edit and proofread print magazine features and sponsored articles
  • Write and edit content for special projects, headlines and subheads for Web and print as needed
  • Write and post social media content as needed

Copy editing the following content:

  • Interview write-ups
  • Occasional text-heavy market decks
  • Research round table write-ups
  • Executive teleconference write-ups
  • Playbooks
  • Jurisdictional profiles
  • Client reports that summarize interviews done and data aggregated on their behalf
  • Any other products that we may deliver to a client
  • Application of graphic design principles through color use, layout and working in text, in the editing of PowerPoint presentations and playbooks or reports.


  • A degree in English, Communications or Journalism, or another comparable field – a plus
  • Interest in state and local government
  • 1-year experience in copy editing required; 2 years preferred
  • Must know AP Style
  • Complex reading and writing and attention to detail
  • Excellent copy editing and proofing skills
  • Must be articulate with excellent grammar and spelling skills
  • Ability to be highly organized to handle high volume of workloads and various projects at one time through effective project and time management skills
  • Familiarity with basic Office programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Must be very familiar with doing Internet searches and navigating through websites
  • Experience with Salesforce and Adobe InCopy a plus
